A definition of 'Digital Idenity' would describe it as.. "A digitalised representation of a real life entity". http://www.looselycoupled.com/glossary/digital%20identity
My digital identity is created by social media websites including Facebook, Google + and Linked In.
This is only presence i have on the internet that can identity me, the behavior i have and to somewhat portray the type of person I am.. I try to keep a low-key presence on the internet due to issues including Identity theft, but at the same time i need to ensure that what i talk about or post about on Facebook does not offend my family, friends or work colleagues. I currently have my team leader and manager as Facebook friends, although i have a good relationship with both it is important that i do not offend, that could lead to possible workplace problems..
As seen many times before many people have loss their jobs or students getting into trouble due to uploading something either inappropriate or offensive.. Generally uploaded with no intentions of hurting anyone, but the repercussions for many people have been devastating.. Please see the following link for some stories...
I know from previous experience that when an employer is putting their potential employee through onboarding process one of the first things they do (seen this first hand from my manager) check their facebook profile.. To many people and almost every employee first impression actually do matter..
The Digital identiy i portay on the internet is not one that i would want to tarnish my professional reputation... I keep to a rule, and that is 'if mum wont like it you better not do it' haha..
